network checker
IS there such a device that you can plug into a network port that tells you if there is a connection to a server? Just something that gives a green light if theres a connection?

plug your laptop into it and go to settings then ethernet and then to network and sharing center then go to Ethernet and then details this will prompt a window to display that will show the details of your network connection if it is working or not.
Or if you are after testing the cable you could get a network cable tester from maplins £10 which is what I use to find Cat5 cables in the hotel.

its more for plugging into the wall to see if its live or not. Just thought there would be a small device you could plug in and get a indicator istead of having to lug your laptop around with you.
