so tell me if you have a hd channel on your cable box
is it blank on your tv because it does not read it or our these channels only special or if you have a hd tv then it will decode it
any comments on this anyone.
you need a digi box that can decode hd to be able to view it
Will it be possible to get HD on a dbox, that can be transfered via the network at 10Mbps to a PC? I know to get HD on a HDTV you need a HDMI cable which the dbox does not have.
If it was possible would 10Mbps be enought to transfer live HD video and sound?
At the moment I cannot get any HD channels on the dbox2 Hidden Content
Thanks
I would presume cable companies will use h.264 instead of mpeg2, dbox2 doesnt support H.264
HD can also be transmitted via component video...which the dbox can output through the scart! But the avia chipset cannot handle the encryption and the cpu is not fast enough so the answer is definately NO.
In theory you could transmit it though ethernet but it would need to be a very fast connection and 10Mbit isn't fast enough. You would also need a very high spec'd PC...probably dual core or Xeon processor. I've tried it on a 3.4GHz P4 and you can hear the sound ok and see the picture but it's freezes and jerks and is pretty much unwatchable.
You would think that yes but I've heard it will be mpeg2
I believe Telewest decided on Mpeg2, NTL H264. Perhaps that will change in the near future now they're the same company.
Re playing hd on your pc, i have a Athlon 3000+ and software called hdtvpump-setup-1.0.7 and i dont have a problem playing 1080p to my hdtv with no picture quality loss. And to the thread it would be nice if the dbox could recieve and play hd.
I've just tried something with some interesting results.
I have a nokia dbox, now flashed with Commando 5, which I mostly use so I can stream video to a PC. I've just downloaded NeutrinoTV 1.1, and as a test tried the BBC HD channel, not expecting anything.
Amazingly, got a picture. A very, very broken juddering picture, but it was trying. The bottleneck is obvioulsy the network, the dbox only has a 10mb port, and from memory the telewest HD mpeg2 stream would be around 60-70mb, so surprising to get anything at all.
What it does show, is that if the dbox could simply pass the stream through fast enough, it would be possible to watch a HD channel on a PC. So what are the chances of adding fast ethernet as well as IDE to the chipset?
thats quite amazing
wob345: Let us know if you get any further info on ethernet.
How do you get the HD channels anyway? I scanned and there is no HD Channels as far as I can tell, or is it there and I am missing something?
Cheers
The HD channels turned up after a normal scan, following an image upgrade. I'm a Telewest customer, and this could be a factor as they use mpeg2 for both stream types.
Can any NTL users confirm whether the HD channels show up in a scan?
I have just done a re scan cant see any HD channels on NTL
what are they listed as just HD?
