If Star Wars Battlefront is running a little slow this Christmas, it could be down to your fairy lights. According to telecoms regulator Ofcom, Christmas lights are just one of many factors that could slow down your broadband. Others include baby monitors and microwaves.

Ofcom has just released its own app that can help you check what's affecting your broadband speed. While other apps check your broadband speed, Ofcom Wi-Fi Checker looks at how your router distributes the signal around the house. You can download the app for Android or iOS devices.

According to Ofcom, Wi-Fi in 6 million homes and offices is not running as fast as it could. It detailed the state of the nation's Wi-Fi in its 2015 Connected Nations report.

The report says there has been "good progress" on the availability and use of telecoms services generally. Around 27 per cent of UK homes have superfast broadband (faster than 30Mbps), which is up from 21 per cent last year.

Superfast broadband is now available to more than 83 per cent of UK homes.

However, the report added that there was "still more to do". 2.4 million UK homes can't get speeds any faster than 10Mbps. Which could affect your Star Wars Battlefront playing, especially if you keep the Christmas lights on.
