Warning comes in the wake of purported man-in-the-middle attack on iCloud users in China.

It has been widely reported over the past few days that iCloud users in China are being hit with man-in-the-middle attacks that are meant to steal users? information. China has denied any wrongdoing but the country has been blamed for sanctioning this attack on iCloud users inside its borders in many reports. Apple has acknowledged that these attacks are being faced by users but has stopped short of naming China in its security warning.

Apple says that it takes these ?intermittent organized network? attacks very seriously, which basically use insecure certificates to steal user information while its being sent over to Apple?s servers. The company clarifies that in no way these attacks pose any threat to iCloud servers to iCloud sign in on Macs and iOS devices.

Man-the-in-middle attacks involve placing a proverbial middle man between the user and the website they?re trying to visit which makes them believe that what they?re signing into is actually the site they intend to sign in to, even though its not.

Since Apple?s iCloud website is protected by a digital certificate users who visit iCloud.com will be shown a message if there?s a possibility of a man-in-middle attack. This should given them enough warning to not punch in their credentials so as to avoid being hit by the attack.
