    Scots peeps and carrier bags

First off who would have thought there would be so many rules n regulations regarding carrier bags !

Back to the title of this thread - my question is, how many carrier bags have you had to buy this week as a result of this new legislation ?

I'd like to say I've not had to buy any but I haven't remembered once to take a bag with me. I've tried putting a 'roy cropper' material bag on my staircase as a reminder to myself to pick it up before I walk out the door to visit the local shops and failed miserably. At first I laughed about it then decided that the 5p charge could be put to better use, so as from tomorrow everytime I fail to take a bag with me I'm going to not only pay for 1 but double fine myself and put another 5p into a jar and donate it to some charity a year from now, in my eyes I've got to be onto a win win situaltion - either I learn fast and become a greener person quicker, or a charity of my choice benefits, it might not be a lot but maybe if the masses adopted a similar attitude then all the 5p's could amount to loads ?

What do you all think ?

    Heres a laugh.

Went to Mcdonalds and was too busy to have a proper lunch so bought a medium fries and a double cheese burger. I declined the bag offer as it was only 2 items.

The laugh is that The chips came in a Bag as the legislation allows chips to be in a bag for free, but i was handed the burger separate not in a bag. The bag was big enough for both the chips and the burger but, by law, they arnt allowed to put the burger in with the chips if you didnt buy a bag!!!

Now it begs the question, if i accepted the offer of a 5p paper bag would i have ended up with 2 bags?

    The laws completely crazy......

I never gave fast food outlets a thought, was the burger at least wrapped in paper ? If you buy a kids happy meal to go, do you have to pay for the paper bag it used to come in ?

yes it was wrapped, but still, if i had paid 5p then i'd want 2 bags as i paid for 1. So charging for a bag in the hopes we use less bags is defeated as in my example they'd have used 2 bags instead.

Yea I can see your point with the example you've just given, but on the whole I really don't mind getting charged for the bags as a lot of people did just use them rather than carry a bag (myself included) hopefully it might benefit the enviroment if less bags are getting used, but personally speaking I used the bags for my rubbish so now i'll have to start buying plastic bags for the same purpose, it just makes me wonder if there will be any benefit at all.
