how do you humanely stop a cat from sitting on your window sill meowing ?
As per title - to cut long story short my neighbours from across the cul-de-sac from me have been on holiday for nearly a week now, they have a young cat (roughly 1 year old) that has been miaowing on my windowsill from approx 20.00 until god knows when but its still doing it now ! anyhow I thought I knew the neighbours well enough to assume they'd have put the cat into cat kennels or whatever they are called, or have someone look after it, so it's either escaped from where it's meant to be living (no family members to contact to find out for sure) or its roughing it ...... badly.
Any serious ideas to stop the little thing sitting at my window ? oh and please no dogs or shotgun jokes

I've already brought it in, gave it some chicken and a drink and left my back kitchen window open so it can go out again if it likes. It stayed in long enough to eat the chicken then must have legged it out the back window, which has been left open just in case it decides it wants somewhere warm to sleep, but its back on my front livingroom window miaowing. TBH I didn't really want to encourage it by giving it food but my conscience got the better of me in case it really was hungry, which I know it's not now, so I just want to know if there's anything i can put on my windowsill and doorstep to make it go away atm its miaowing for Scotland on my windowsill Hidden Content

once you start feeding either a stray cat or nieghbour cat it will keep turning up for food I think the best way is to get a water pistol with water and squirt it at cat

Yea I think your right there mags, I was dubious about feeding it especially since I knew it was a young cat, lesson learned and I wont be feeding it again.
I've found out today my next door neighbour is the one that's looking after it, she feeds it and lets it out of the house on an evening, the owners of the cat told her that it stays out all night, so tonight I'll put the tv up louder so that i dont hear it and hopefully once the owners are back it'll stop coming to my window.

Cats also don't like the smell of oranges or any other citrus fruit so as a temporary measure if you smear some fresh orange pith or peel onto your window sill it should give it a wide berth

You can buy sprays designed to keep cats away, citronella essence works really well too, or as billyboy1963 said oranges will work, but isn't as strong.

cat deterrent
Didn't know about oranges/citronella but a more extreme solution used with great success by a friend of mine in his allotment was to buy a bag of lion poo from the zoo (yes, they actually will sell you lion poo) and this was then spread around the allotment. Cats, foxes, dogs and all manner of unwanted mammals kept away after that. Not sure you want lumps of lion faeces on your windowsill, but it's definitely an option should things get too bad!

Cool might try some of these ideas as we have a few cats that when they are not getting enough love as the neighbours have gone out or are at work come say high on the windowsill
