No picture on Plasma tv from laptop

For over a year I have had a laptop hooked up to my plasma tv to watch sky go content. Lately though I have lost the picture altogether and only have sound. Because the tv doesn't support vga I have been using a vga to hdmi converter. The television is a Panasonic Viera.

I have tried the following to remedy/check the issue:
    1. Connected another laptop but still no display
    2. Changed the VGA cable from laptop to converter
    3. Changed HDMI cable from laptop to converter
    4. Altered the settings numerous times for the graphics card to allow for a secondary monitor etc
    5. Restored the laptop back to a time when I had a picture
    6. Finally I bought another converter thinking the problem must lie with that but just got the same result i.e. blank screen with sound

I am now at a loss about what to do next, does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks for any help

it seems that you did have it working and now not. maybe an update stopped it automatically switching to 2nd monitor.

on your laptop see if you have a button called 'fn' if you have then press that along with a function key that has a basic symbol like a monitor. it could be as simple as that.

You could also see if your Laptops graphics cards' driver needs updating, perhaps a Windows update has caused a conflict and a new/updated driver could fix this?
