Remove Old Icons From Notification Area List
If your like me and like to run a tidy ship,
there is nothing more annoying than after you uninstall a program the icon is still sitting in the notification area listHidden Content
Hidden Content
So there are two ways of removing them you can either do
- Press [Windows R], type [regedit] and hit [enter] (without the brackets)
- Navigate to the Registry key HKCU \Software \Classes \LocalSettings \Software \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \TrayNotify
- Make a backup of the Registry key by right-clicking on TrayNotify and selecting Export in-case you mess up.
- Now delete the following two Registry keys: IconStreams and PastIconsStream
- Open the Windows Task Manager with [Ctrl Shift Esc]
- Terminate the explorer.exe process (don't worry all your desktop icons will disappear)
- Click on File > New Task Run and enter explorer.exe to reload the explorer process (desktop icons will reappear)
Hidden Content
This removes all icons that are currently not in use from the system tray.
Or if you are wary of doing the above you can just extract and run the batch file attached and follow the on screen instructions Hidden Content

Re: Remove Old Icons From Notification Area List
I cant see how you would end up with this problem in the first place?
if you really have uninstalled the program and the startup command is removed and the exe is gone how is this possible?
Ive had the problem before with things left in add/remove because simply the files were deleted before the uninstaller had a chance and corrupts if you try Hidden Content
nice app if its useful to you.
Spin.

It must be a bug in w7 if the program you install puts a icon in the systray or the notification area list, after you have uninstalled the program and rebooted the icon is still in the notification area listHidden Content
