Handy Feature in win7 possibly vista

Not my find, all thanx goto Alienseeker on merlins portal!

    God Mode in Win 7
Although its name suggests perhaps even grander capabilities, Windows enthusiasts are excited over the discovery of a hidden "GodMode" feature that lets users access all of the operating system's control panels from within a single folder.

By creating a new folder in Windows 7 and renaming it with a certain text string at the end, users are able to have a single place to do everything from changing the look of the mouse pointer to making a new hard-drive partition.

The trick is also said to work in Windows Vista, although some are warning that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash.

To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:

    GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Once that is done, the folder's icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options. I'm not sure it's my idea of playing God, but it is a handy way to get to all

    Enjoy all

Just been having a play with it tink, and I'm still up and running after cleaning my C drive up of 45 gb of crap and temp files!
Gives access to controls I never thought about and all in one place. If your running right there's no need to change anything, but when you need it the "access all areas" settings in one place is just so useful.
Why on earth didn't Microsoft tell people about this and include it on the desktop to start with?
It must be a great selling point, especially for advanced users to quickly access and customize their system!

So whats wrong with just putting your desktop, shortcuts and everything as you want them.
Right clicking on an empty desktop space and clicking REFRESH?
That saves everything as you set it up.
    Or didn't you mean that?

no not really, i moved my icons, hit refresh. Then arranged them by type. (sometimes i cant find what i'm looking for and need to put them in a other order!)

What i want is to be able arrange them the way i want....if i need to change them I.e in size/type....i want to be able to change them back the way i arranged them!

LOL, if you want a program that changes with your use or mood m8, it doesn't exist!
Each time you move your icons to where you want them, then right click Refresh and they will stay there. Each time you change your layout, refresh it again to keep it.
The only other 2 things you can do are; clean up your desktop and use less icons, or get more organized and sort them into groups perhaps?
I also have a lot of icons on my desktop, a lot of which are unneeded really as I don't use them all the time. It irritates friends of mine because it can look untidy, but I have a bad memory so it helps me not to need to search.
I have arranged mine into a sort of open arch, with all the format converters, browsers, Skype, cover print software etc on the left and all the games, drive cleaners, benchmarking tools etc on the right.
Start with a top line on one side of say 7 icons, with the next line being only 6 and then 5 and so on on both sides. Try to keep both sides as even as you can. Then refresh that!
Another tip I picked up somewhere is to make a new folder called desktop icons or something similar and put all your least used icons and apps in there. It then looks a lot tidier and you always know where installers and things are?
Thats how my system works for me. You may find it useful or not to help you, but at least that way your desktop stays fairly constant and with use you know straight away where you should be looking for a particular application!
Let me know if that helps?

the only icons you should have on your desktop are those with the little arrow in the corner [i'e shortcuts]
if you have files , docs, folders, programs, winrar, zip files etc
these have to fully load each time you start up - and it will make your pc slower and slower to load your user profile.

you can have 1000's of shortcuts on your desktop but nothing else. otherwise your speed will just deminish the more you put on .

    its nice here....
