Wink Space station, how and where to see it ?

I have been looking at the skys for ages to see the international space station floating in space, but i dont think ive ever seen it.

i know it can be viewed with the naked eye even sometimes during the day too i heard, dunno if thats true ?

Anyway, iam in scotland, i have a great view of the sky, especially north, and north east and also north west, south facing is a little more akward to view but not that much of a problem.

I hope some of you stargazers can help me, iam not at all into stargazing much and cant say i really even want to get into it, Hidden Content , but would love to just be able to spot the space station and know its not just my eyes playing tricks on me, Hidden Content .

the ISS passes very fast and low and can be seen with a zoom lens clearly on some of it passes, i'll put up a video too i took some while back.

you can, if a licenced ham talk to it too!

you can also listen too! the various links can be heard on a scanner when in range. though ofcourse not the nasa comms as that via sats

Re: Space station, how and where to see it ?

yep well just be aware that if its due to pass over your local - it is VERY fast
like if you face toward where it will come over the horizon, it will pass over in less the 45 seconds
the trick is to get facing the way it is coming from with the lowest view of the horizon you can get.
that way it will be slow upon first acquisition and you will be able to track it as it speeds up and goes over head,

its NOT easy esp if you have not got a view lower than about 30deg to the hoizon to first find .

sadly there are SO many people that go, look thats the ISS, its NOT , thats venus!! the ISS is NEVER still if you can see it.
only about 1 in 1800 odd passed will make it appear still and shining to us.

even newsround got it wrong a few years back until 100's of views wrote in ans said no thats venus.....oooppss!

does it ever pass and be viewable in a north direction rather than a south direction ?
