Been reading around a bit on modding the Wii, but its raised a lot of questions in my mind, albeit given me a lot of information. However, I ask perhaps one of the most burning questions in people's minds when they embark on the modding jouney...
Which is better: chipping the Wii or soft-modding it?
From what I've understood so far, I attempt to consolidate the info; please feel free to correct me.
Common aspects of both mods
- WiiConnect24 needs to be turned off
- No updates should be done once modded
- Loads of benefits : play backups, etc...
Some chip benefits
- Completely reversible (take the chip out, you're back to square one)
Some soft-mod benefits
- No need to open the Wii, thereby rendering the warranty void
- WiiBrew channel & related appps
- Believe you can be on any version up till 4.0, but not beyond
- If there are upgrades, there will probably be a way to get to the upgrade somehow
- FREE !!
Resultant Questions
- Does rolling back to an earlier version of firmware (say 3.4u) set the Wii to Factory Settings?
- Is the chip better in performance than the soft-mod?
- If the chip offers quicker/better performance, is it enough to offset the other obvious benefits of a soft-mod?
- Is the WiiBrew channel accessible on a chipped Wii?
- Which is the best version firmware to be on for each mod?
