    Re: Dab

it's alright, we've got one here in work and it does it's job.

there's a slightly better (different) range of channels compared to FM, but most of the common ones are on both.

it doesnt go fuzzy, but it does sound as though people are drowning if the reception drops too much.

Sound quality is decent, but i'm not sure what your expecting so hard to say if youd be disapointed or not

I do like the way you can press info and it will give you the track name of the current tune for most stations

    Re: Dab

I think it's definately a step up from FM especially in rural areas, but the biggest problem is the lack of local stations available. Surely that needs to be addressed before the supposed radio switchover in 2015

    Re: Dab

In answer to thejarv, my DAB signal never breaks up in the car.
I use it all the time and find the sound and choice of stations very good!
Instead of breaking up like FM stations do though, as with all digital things you either get it or you don't.
Sometimes in particularly enclosed areas for example I will just lose the station altogether, but it can return clear as a bell when I have moved only a few yards!
I never thought I would be as impressed with it as I am, but find I now use DAB almost exclusively, either at home or in the car.

    Re: Dab

I experienced DAD in a courtesy car and didn't think much of it. The signal wasn't lost but regularly deteriorated into a cacophony of squeaks and gurgles which Ibelieve techies refer to as boiling mud. It may depend on the area you use itbut if possible try before you buy as you could be disappointed.

    Re: Dab

Didn't want to set a new thread up. So sorry for the bump.

I recently bought a new car stereo and thought I'd save myself a bit of money and go for the FM/AM tuner rather than DAB. Starting to regret it now somewhat. I listen to Five Live a fair bit and in on the car on AM the signal is always terrible. I don't why Five Live has never been on FM? I know AM travels further but if radio 1 works on one frequency, why not Five Live?

I just bought a DAB converter "Pure Highway" as my new company wheels only had a bog standard radio, and with the loss of Chris Moyles on Radio 1, I need to find something to listen to.

I am a big fan of the BBC, but they have got it wrong with the huge gap between Radio1 and crappy Radio 2.

DAB does provide something else, I am surprised to find that I listen to Radio 4 Extra on DAB now for the comedy shows, a bit of Absolute Radio, and a bit of Radio 6, and a bit of 5 live.

Quality is very good, the difference is the stations available.

I had Dab in my Hired car that my work gave me for months. It was great in cities, but my work takes me up north and it was crap.

Given up radio myself and now listen to audiobooks to pass time on long journeys.

No reception issues for me when up north, but I opted for a mag mount antenna, which probably helps a lot.
