If you are after using your Xbox360 as a media extender (which would allow you to stream music etc from your pc), you can use windows XP Media Centre edition. Or, if you want to upgrade to Vista and your hardware is capable of running it, you could upgrade to Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate which both have media centre built in.
If you decide to upgrade to Vista, I would strongley recommend installing the vista upgrade advisor and running that first, as it could save you a lot of hassle later on. Also, be prepared to upgrade your video card as video playback on vista uses a lot more resources than under xp.
You dont need to upgrade or use media centre for streaming to the 360.Make
sure you have the latest updates for your 360,then make sure your source
computer is wired to a router,if you have a wireless 360 adaptor you can
stream great quality music and videos to your main tv.
Apparently Nero (version 7 onwards) allows this, although having media centre not had reason to try it.
