    Vista Disable calculating time

    Hi

Does anyone here know how to speed up the time it takes to copy files in vista? I remember reading somewhere that you can speed it up by disabling the calculating time feature it does.

If anyone knows how to do this or any other ways of doing it it would be appreciate it please. It drives me mental how slow it is.

    Re: Vista Disable calculating time

The copy is still going on in the background at the start while it's doing the "Calculating time" stuff, so it's not slowing anything down at that part.

There was an actual bug, not a feature, that caused network copies to go a bit slower, but that was fixed in Service Pack 1, so if you don't have SP1, go here to download the patch:

But also, the XP file copy progress actually stopped too early, as things were still writing in the background when the copy finished (via a write cache), so it was a bit misleading. Vista by default doesn't do this, so it might be a second or two slower seeming, but it's actually accurate compared to XP.
