Loft Flooring
Hi all looking for some more advise. What it is i am wanting to floor my loft but wonder if doing this will affect my insulation. Not doing this to create another room doing it so that there is a bit more storage space. If anyone out there has done this before all comments would be appreciated. Cheers

Re: Loft Flooring
yo.!!
i have just done my own loft conversion, and while i was in B'n'Q getting some bit's,i see a pack of small loft boards, about 5 in pack about 1.2m X 250mm wide...made small to fit nice and easy through loft hatches..as for your insulation...it will do it no harm covering it over with these boards..
..tack..

Re: Loft Flooring
Any cheap flooring will do.....dont fix it all over, just one here and there to hold the position.
You may need to get under for pipes or cables!!

Re: Loft Flooring
Just phone up your local builder merchants and ask for chipboard flooring for your loft, try and make sure all pipes and cables are in place before laying.
When puting the floor down in its final position remembers and use PVA Glue on the joints, you can use screws or nails, if screwing, pilot drill and countersink first for a better finish
Hope this helps

Re: Loft Flooring
Just be very cautious as to what you are doing in the loft! Simple reason being if the council find out and they deem it to be a habitual room then you have problems! planning building regs ect ect Yes the floor is easy to do and yes you could slap a few plasterboads on but as soon as planning becomes involved you can get ready to pay alot of money out to get it right for them!!

no as said by Hidden Content there is that also, cables i would not recommend any one who has no knowing of electrical installations to do a loft conversion
1 if you run wires through insulation and bord over the top the cable size is doubled or run through conduat/trunking suitable for the job
2 anay spot lights for the below rooms have to be clear at the top ig haveing round holes cut into you chill out room floor
3 extra sockets lighting to be installed and all the other things to do with wires Hidden Content
then thers the joist sizing. as soon as you start loading your loft out you are putting weight were non is meant to be this is ok usually when storing old crap but when you get 4-5-6 gus up there a small fridge for beer your porn collection games hifi tv sofa ect well you would run the risk of a claps at worst.
access if you put a stair case in
1 the landing at the top and bottom has to be a min size aria
2 the degrees of the stairs not to steep
3 the head room at the top and other things
fire regs
means of escape thay like to have a loft window in do you dont get trapped in there at the worst case anything now with 3 storys or mour has to have a interlinked fire detection system (all smoke alarms are wired together)
there are ather things like pipe work and roof insulation but you get the idea.
what is deemed habitable well a room or place one can spend time in a state of comfort is a good rule of thumb.
