Neither the Bronco nor the Toyota 4Runner were designed for straight-line speed. They're off-roaders through and through, with squared-off bodies, high ground clearances, long-travel suspension setups, and gigantic off-roading tires. Still, The Fast Lane Car brought the two together (along with a ringer) to see which would come out on top in a drag race. While the Bronco has the clear edge on power (315 hp from a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 versus just 270 hp from the 4Runner's 4.0-liter V-6), its massive 35-inch tires dwarf the rubber on the Toyota, meaning it has a lot more weight to spin to get going on pavement. Despite that, the Ford is able to pull away after a bad start, walking away from the 4Runner towards the end of the race.Later in the video, TFLC folks bring out a Hyundai Santa Cruz to see if it would be any quicker against the mighty Bronco. It makes just five more horses than the 4Runner, but it's lighter and doesn't have any massive off-roading rubber to lug around. The Bronco gets the jump off the line, but unsurprisingly, it's the Hyundai that comes out on top once the two vehicles reach the finish.
