The current Ford Ranger has been around for a decade now, and Ford knows it's time for a replacement. The company has just released a teaser video on YouTube showing off the next-gen Ranger, giving us an idea of the truck's capabilities ahead of its 2022 launch.

The one-minute, 19-second video shows footage of a heavily camouflaged next-gen Ranger testing in a handful of extreme environments, including on snow, dirt, and sand. There are even shots of the truck pulling massive slides on mud and performing some heavy-duty off-roading.

While Ford has yet to reveal any official specs on the next-gen Ranger, we have a good idea of what to expect. According to previous reports, this generation of Ranger will share much of its design with the Bronco, and could even use the same engines. More importantly, this new generation of Ranger will also likely have a Raptor trim for the United States market. Currently, the Ranger Raptor is only available overseas in markets like Europe and Australia.

It's not known at this time whether the new Ranger Raptor will retain its diesel powerplant from the current truck or get a new Ecoboost-powered gas unit. Factoring in America's lack of interest in diesel products, we're leaning towards the latter. But there's no way to tell for sure just yet.

Ford says the new Ranger will be revealed later this year, with a market launch in 2022. We expect the Ranger Raptor to follow soon after.
