The decision affects thousands of performers who rely on PayPal to get paid.

Pornhub may be viewed as a free destination for the consumption of porn, but for performers, it's actually a way to generate income. However, receiving that income just got a little more difficult as PayPal no longer supports payments for the site.

As Vice reports, PayPal initially didn't explain why it suddenly pulled support, but it's far from the first payment platform to distance itself from services of a sexual nature. However, in a recent tweet Vice reporter Samantha Cole shared the following statement from a PayPal spokesperson:

"Following a review, we have discovered that Pornhub has made certain business payments through PayPal without seeking our permission. We have taken action to stop these transactions from occurring."

As far as Pornhub is concerned, the news has left them "devastated," mainly because of "over a hundred thousand performers who rely on them for their livelihoods." We will now have to wait and see if Pornhub can explain what "certain business payments" means and whether it's possible to resolve the problem and reverse the PayPal service withdrawal.

In the meantime, Pornhub is encouraging performers to make contact with them immediately, as well as offering an alternative means to get paid. The most prominent of those is Direct Deposits, which can be setup for models in the US, Canada, or across Europe and bypasses the need for a platform like PayPal.
