Virgin Media is too expensive! Cheaper options?
Hi all, first of all apologies if I have posted in the wrong section.
My contract with VM is coming to an end and I am grateful, they are extremely expensive and I am paying nearly ?100 a month for movies and sports.
I enjoy premier league football and cricket and the films on sky movies but frankly I know I can stream these online for free. However I would prefer watching it out of a satellite box rather then having to hook up the laptop to the tv all the time.
When it comes to renewing my contract I am going to keep my broadband because it runs flawlessly (low pings great for gaming & 100mb download really helps) but I wish to cancel the TV. Is there an alternative box I can get and use with my VM broadband?
I have heard of these boxes where you pay a one off fee or a yearly fee and get all the channels but I've only known people with broadband coming out of a BT line and I heard it is risky with VM customers. Is this true?
I am a student living with parents but they don't watch tv at all and very occasionally use the internet so it is me who is having to pay the majority (they pay for the phone line) and it is very difficult to fund this so I would really appreciate any advice I can get.
Main channels I would like are the Sky sports and Sky movies & BT sport.
Thanks guys

starting up
Hi all, I am thinking of buying a box and cardsharing, but don't know where to start. Could someone tell me step by step how I go about it.
What box should I buy and then how do I set it up?
Any info you may think useful would be much app.
Its a bit daunting looking thru the forum when ur not even sure what to look for, so even a link to posts that have the info I need would be great. I'm not lazy just don't know what to search for.
Thanks paxer

Don't buy any box with "gift" m8, as you won't get what your paid for, there are lots of different boxes out there, and i will all depend on your wallet, there are single tuner boxes, twin tuner boxes, satellite & cable tuner boxes, so its what your needs are m8 but you will need someone with services [ card sharing ] if your looking to watch encryption channels [ like most of us ] so make of boxes are, vu+... xtrend... technomate... Hidden Content ebox.... ALL these boxes have single & twin tuner boxes m8, so have a good look on the net m8 as there is plenty out there !!!

Sky and Virgin are so clueless at times.
I have just ditched Virmin, got the cancellation guy on the phone offering 200 meg for 30 quid, they should have offered this sooner rather than current 70 quid for 60 meg down and 3 meg up.
So yes, haggle them, they sometimes charge what they think they can get away with.
