    Laptop not recognising RAM

I've got a problem with my laptop, which has conveniently just happened when the warranty has expired.

My laptop has 2 RAM slots, and I've got 6gb of RAM in (one 4gb and one 2gb).

For some reason, it's stopped recognising one slot. I've tried switching the ram around to see if one of them is faulty, but it's not that because they get recognised in the working slot (if the 4gb is in the top slot and the 2gb is in the bottom slot, it says my laptop has 4gb RAM, and if I switch them around it says I have 2gb RAM, never my old 6gb Hidden Content ).

I'm certain I'm gonna have to take it in to somewhere to be looked at, I was just wondering if anybody might know what it is that I need to be repaired/replaced?

Try jumping into BIOS to see if it shows them both in there. This is done by tapping a key as the computer first boots up, usually 'del', F2 or F10

    I'd try upgrading/reflashing the BIOS.

Get yourself Memtest or find it on Hirens CD

Run the test if you get lots of red bars the ram has failed
And test them one at a time

Sounds to me like although your Motherboard is recognising the RAM Modules, it's likely that the BIOS firmware needs updating to support 6GB RAM.

The other possibility is that, 4GB is the max supported, some manufacturers are not very supportive of us DIY PC upgrades, they'd rather we upgraded and brought their latest model!
