Pigeon takes same New York ferry every day

A pigeon has taken the same ferry from Manhattan, New York to Weehawken, New Jersey almost every day for the last three years.

Nicknamed Tony, the pigeon flies on to the Thomas Jefferson ferry each morning during rush hour. He then makes the trip to New Jersey and back before repeating the same two-hour journey in the evening.

The only days Tony has been absent have been during blizzards, the NY Daily News reports.

The ferry's senior deckhand George Schumpp said: "I've been working this job for 23 years and I've never seen anything like this.

"Three years ago, this pigeon shows up and starts going through the cabin and eating crumbs. Next thing you know, he's here every day at the exact same time. And he does more work cleaning than my partner."

Schumpp added: "Kids love to chase him around the boat. To avoid them, Tony will just jump up on top of the vent or the wheelhouse. That's his safe haven.

"Then, when the kids have gotten off, he gets back down and starts looking for food again."

I wonder if he tweets daily too?
