This happened on my folks PC and I also found that not unplugging (or turning off at the wall) kept the date / time.. Until months later we changed the CMOS batt.

You could try using Easus Partition Master.. it's free!
there's a tool called 'recuva' that might be able to retrieve your data.. otherwise i would just reformat. If it's still not working, throw it away and buy a new one..
