Hi

I`m thinking of building a 5ft high wall 20ft long, how deep does the foundations have to be.

Thanks

personally i would make them a metre deep m8 for safety reasons and make sure you have enough piers in the wall to give it strength i would have at least 4 piers 9x9 each

all depends on your soil conditions matey.
also if your getting the local concil involved.
if it was me,in my garden i would keep digging down until i hit clay..you know when you'v hit it..brown shiney hard as hell to dig....

need to hit clay and then as a rule of thumb go down 2 feet further.
when i did foundations for my house hit clay straight away so went down 3 feet. sisters house they had to go down 9 feet

All depends what you'r ground conditions are at the moment, as it is not a load baring wall by the sounds of it, just go till you hit clay.

Have seen foundations only half meter deep by half meter wide
