Nokia a bit better than the Sagem. Dont bother with a dbox1 make sure its a dbox2 (will have a lcd display if it a 2). If you can afford it look out for a Dreambox 500c make sure its a 500c and not a 500s there for satalite.

probably better to pay that little extra and get one thats set up for the UK. At least by the time it needs reflashing you will have learned a little more about them and what they can do. If you keep reading the posts on here and the tutorials then all will become clear.

If all you want to do is watch NTL tv then get a eurovox max very easy to use plug and play

may work but you need to know the bk number
easy if you still have the original card that isnt blocked

no need for cards if you get a euro vox max which in my opinion is best box around for a newbie easy to install. slightly more challenging are the dbox2 and dreambox 500c the later being the best box on the market

Yes the 4000 should work all you need to make sure that the talkback feature has been made redundant/cut.

Only need a programmer if you plan to do your edit your own cards, well thats what i think but no doubt if i said ought incorrect someone will corret me to where i sit. LOL.

Bottom line here mate is you pay your money and take your choice. I have used both Nokia and Sagem dboxes, both are straightforward and relatively easy to obtain.
Dreambox500c is the newer kid on the block..nice compact size and very robust. So all that's left for you to do now is take the plunge and get one.

Hello all,

Nice read - I am also looking for an additional box (for NTL) as we just got a brand new LCD in the bedroom. Till now, by reading the various posts, I could understand the following:

DBOX2 - Nokia is better (easy to configure) than the Sagem one;
Eurovox Max - Easy plug and play
Pace models - OK but need BK and IRD (easy with Led Simm + Funcard)
Dreambox 500c - very robust!

- Now, what makes the 500c more robust?

- If I am reading correctly, there is no way to receive PPV anymore as they've gone VOD. Will any of the boxes above be able to get the PPV channels?

Thanks and best wishes for 2007

PS: In Feb 2007, the NTL and TELEWEST feeds will merge, does that mean that it will be the end for us?

The 500c has a bigger cpu than the dbox and is also new
the dbox is atleast 6 years old but better imo
you cannot get vod with any of them.
When they merge....lets see what they try to do thats the fun of it.

Dreambox 500c has a smaller footprint too.
Just took delivery of mine and now have 2 Nokias,a 7020s Motorised satellite setup and a 500c. Sad git or what ????

there are two boxes you could buy one is a nokia the other sagem nokias have good tuners and sagem tuners well not so good i have found that sagems are more reliable than the nokias as nokias use avia 500 chips as appossed to sagems using the better avia 600 chips i would say get a sagem but then its all down to personal preferance mate good look

Easy way is Dbox1 doesnt have LCD window on front right of Box.
Dbox2 , in either Sagem or Nokia models does.

I was about to buy a dreambox 500c on eBay (?119)and collect it from the seller (Glasgow), I then heard about fake 500C's and asked the seller to confirm his were not fakes and sent him a link to show the difference. Needless to say he stopped all contact with me and i never bought the dreambox! I purchased a Nokia DBox-2 from Germany and paid extra for it in debug mode, so hopefully I'll get it next week and try to program it.

Since all the "chipped" boxes and cards got zapped there has been a jump in prices on fleabay. Still possible to get a bargain if you are lucky though.

Not every 1000 is in the database though, its then led simm time,1000's are getting a bit old as well.
Get a dreambox it'll work out just the same as buying a cc box, programmer, led simm if required? and cards.

dreambox 500-C is the best box to buy for cable. very easy to setup and get running......can flash a new image in 1min 4 secs. also no need to worry about them being in debug mode
