The DM600C-PVR is getting released this week so there won't be any support for it as yet. It will only have the base image which will have to be modded for UK cable.

The 600C-PVR has the capability for a 2.5" hdd whereas the 500C doesn't. Just depends on what you want. 500C images won't work in the 600C-PVR.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I assuming it won't be long for it to be reconfigured for UK Cables channels?

Having looked over the specifications I would suggest that DM500c images would be easily adapted for this model. The only directly obvious change is the addition of the 2.5" hard drive - you should be able to add the required support for the HDD to a 500c image in the form of a kernel object or additional filesystem. Apart from that, the processor is the same, the other chips appear to be the same, and therefore the same cross compiler would be used - I don't see any reason why 500c images would fail to boot on the DM600 unless a little kernel patching is required.

I'm thinking of getting one but only if the tuners have been updated - if theyre anything like the 500c then the price tag isnt justified; you can get 2 fully working DBOX2s for the price of one of these! Maybe I should wait until other people have actually bought them and tested them to some degree so I can see what the feedback is like.

I suppose have become used to a PVR for freeview and Sky+ before that I have become used to playback on demand.

I currently have a DigiFusion FRT200 - is it possible to output material from Dbox ('VCr' Scart) to this HDD's second scart?

Another option would be to purchase a DVD Recorder....

Outputs: 2 x SCART, RF loopthrough (no modulator) thats what it says on the spec so no m8. I use a DVD recorder and that does work.

Also found this on the Maplin website

Q) Does it have a line in to record from cable or satellite?
A) No it is a Freeview internal recorder only

you just have to look.

The 600pvr takes a 2.5" IDE hard drive (standard lap-top) not a desk top 3.5" IDE drive, if thats your question.

AV disk drives.
Most disk drives are intended for pure data applications but AV drives are designed especially for audio/video. The extremely high storage capacities achieved on modern small format drives (currently up to 18 GB on 3.5-inch diameter) result in the tracks being packed very tightly across the Disks - many tracks are recorded within a 'paper thin' distance. Distances are so minute that thermal re-calibration is used to ensure the read/write heads are accurately placed over the tracks. On AV Disks thermal re-calibration is built-in as a part of their continuous operation whereas pure 'data' Disks will regularly take time out for re-calibration - making them not well suited for video where pictures and sound must flow continuously.
