Hi guys, sorry to bother you, tried everything

I can't get my sony kdl40w000 to display 1080i using 2x7800gtx on a asus a8n-sli, the pc just crashes.

I've tried 3 different nvidia drivers with no joy. I've also just installed a creative X-Fi Fata1ty sound card with newest drivers

I think it could be my dell graphics cards, I REALLY hope not

Any ideas?

Update to the latest bios and if you already have the latest then go back to an older one, you might have the latest bios and it might be a beta if so I would change back anyways.

Download Driver Cleaner Professional 1.5 - Driver Cleaner Pro - an improved and better version of Driver Cleaner - Softpedia (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Download and get it to find and remove All nvidia drivers and then try just installing the latest drivers on there own, if that doesn't work remove again and try an older nvidia driver.

Cheers sytemfailed, spot on:)

I asked a Graphics Bios guru about updating the bios to solve the problem and he laughed at me saying the bios has nothing to do with it

You should always have the latest stable bios on your pc, any problems that you get on a pc the bios could be the fault.

Thanks y2krog2000, my system is very stable apart from this minor problem, so I dont want to change the bios and I have the latest anyway.
I think you may have misunderstood, It's the Graphics BIOS I was enquirering about but apparently it has nothing to do with the resolution(you learn something everyday)

O.K. after playing Bf2 last evening @1080i I thought that the problem was solved...but....today i'm back at squre one.

Any ideas

Aye m8 I didnt understand you, I thought you had a different problem. I didnt even know that graphics cards had their own Bios so I did learn something new there.

It may be a lack of driver for the monitor itself.

I have a similar problem with an ATI card connected by HDMI to a 32" hyundai screen, in that XP 'forgets' the resolution I last had the TV set to and defaulting to 800x600 on boot up (not yet tried over VGA).

I've had a quick look on the Sony site for a driver for the kdl-40w2000 and not found anything.

I had the same kind of problem. The heat that the cards kick out sometimes make the system crash i installed a water cooler and some more fans and have not had a prob sence. i know it seems simple and your pc may not feel hot as mine did not but it was lol

Thanks for the replies guys

Here's the latest
Heat wise the pc is fine, under full load/no load the cards get up to 63c from 52c
The cpu is 54c from 43c
I'm pretty sure these figures are accurate. Besides that 1080p is easily achived.

Just installed a game called "Sniper" and played it @1080i and 1080p, so thats Sniper and Half Life 2 that work @1080p and 1080i, but Doom3 and BF2 that don't. Doom3 and BF2 don't support 1920x1080 :-? might have something to do with it.

I tested directx and opengl but found no faults, i'll install some other games like quake4 and F.E.A.R, I've got an feeling that they will both work, I'll also try NFS Underground and Unreal 2003 which I think wont.
