I bought one when I first bought my TM1500 m8 coz my lappy hasn't got a serial port on it.
I gave up trying to get it to work tho and now have to unplug the stb and plug it into my main desktop to update the patches/channel lists etc.
It is shown in device manager once its installed, but could I buggery get it to see the stb.
I might persevere with it tho, coz its a pain to keep unplugging everything just to patch it.

Try usb RS 232, Does not work all the time. Just via serial is the best way.

it all depends on what u buy i think m8. i've read on other forums;) about needing to change things in device manager and it being a pain in the arse, but most of these seem to be with cheap leads from fleabay. i paid %u00A317 for mine from a small computer shop and it worked first time never had to enter device manager at all. really handy though as u never know when u might need the serial lead, just as bard said it's nice and easy to just take lappy to the box.

Totally agree with krazylegs. There are limited *good* vendors of USB <-> RS232 devices. Typical issues concern the RS232 levels not meeting spec, separate to any USB Phy related nasties. The majority of devices used within these things are relics from the Asian cell phone <-> PC market. Were used in docks. These only ever needed to drive TTL or CMOS levels for '232, not the 12V as required by RS232 for an external interface. All distills to the charge pump that gets (or should get) the levels to 12V from USB+5V.
