Hey guys, a little stuck:(
My mate bought a PC from a car booty(silly boy I know) and its password protected at the windows login.
Its a Pentium4 and starts up really quickly.
It shows up as "home edition" so must be service pack 1
I tried f8 on boot(to enter safe mode) but the only options were boot sequence:banghead:
The password hint is "caput" so I tried guessing the password to no avail......i'm rubbish at crosswords too:)
Any ideas?

Seems like you've pressed F8 too quick :) Boot sequence is generally associated with the BIOS - there are no Windows 'startup' options for this (because the computer has already booted by then).

Try waiting a lil bit longer and then hammer that F8 key to get into Safe Mode. I guess you are trying to use the Administrator account to delete the password? ;)

If the Administrator account is blocked then look on google for a boot disk that resets the password - its a linux disc which can access the SAM files and alter them so that no passwords exist.

Try not putting a password in and see if that works.

Program called locksmith will help you out. You need to boot up with a bootcd first. ERD commander is best I think.

Thanks to all that replied so abruptly, especially speedy who got it spot on

Dumb to have f8 as the boot sequence though
had to enter boot sequence, then exit it and press f8 quickly again, really fast boot up on this little pc

Been a while since I used SP1, thought it might have been no f8 options on it(getting forgetful in my old age)

thanks guys, your always dependable:woot:
