What sort of base d/l rate should I get on my 10MB service.

Yeah i get aprrox 1200kbs which is equal to the above comment
ps you wont see these speeds on typical web pages or file sharing progs unless the web site supports the speeds. ie i find gamershell supports fast download speeds also the way i hit my top speeds is on the newsbins etc.. hope this helps you out a lil.

u get that if you are downloading on a sunday morning(as in like 4am), hardly ever max out, also 6pm-midnight they slow everyones net down so they can handle all the users

What's important to note here is that in alot of file sharing apps, e.g. Bittorrent, you are allocated downstream bandwidth which is dependent on your maximum upstream speed; on nthell this is a relatively miserly 500Kbps for 10Mbps downstream.

also ntl use transparent proxies that can get overloaded too. If I use nntp I can get 10Mb/s but http will only go to 1.5Mb. I tend to see a real slowdown around 7-10pm.

If you use firefox I find that flashgot can really help as it breaks up the download into multiple streams.
