I was going to upgrade the memory in a inspiron 1200 dell laptop, I know it takes PC2700 SoDimm, will any 1GB PC2700 SoDimm work or are laptops fussy about the brand?

Cheers for the link, but I want to get the memory from the local shop to me as its a bit cheaper and if the machine rejects it I will be able to bring it back to them for a refund. By the way this is what I was planning on getting for the inspiron 1200 Welcome to Mplex.com (http://www.mplex.com/cgi-bin/ccp51/cp-app.cgi?usr=51F1780904&rnd=7036300&rrc=N&affl=&cip=&act=&aff=&pg=prod&ref=mem%2Fking%2Fsodimm%2F333%2F1024&cat=mem%2Fkingston&catstr=HOME:comp%2Fmemory:mem%2Fkingston) .

I rang mplex and they said that they dont have any of that memory in stock and they told me that they would phone me last monday and tuesday and they didnt, I phoned them and they said that they need to speak to their "memory guy", well I think the MEMORY guy forgot..

But I have the day of work today so im gonna go down and see if mplex can order me some.

I'd have a look at Crucial.com for the memory :
Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - Search Categories (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. They have a no quibble money back guarantee if the memory doesnt work.

I rang band distribution the other night about memory the person that answered the phone didnt have a clue about what memory they had or could get hold of or prices, mplex phoned me back and told me ?135 for 1gb so I just got it out of pcworld for ?99.

I agree the mplex is a good shop but I would only buy cds and dvds from band distribution.

Glad you got sorted, although if you'd brought it from Crucial it would have cost you ?93.99 delivered.

In case you don't know, Crucial is the retail arm of Micron, which is one of the world biggest memory manufacturers, so its their own memory which they are selling. Micron supply memory to all of the worlds PC manufacturers.
Crucial have a no quibble money back guarantee. If it doesn't work, they'll give you your money back or replace the part, no questions asked. They have a database of PCs and motherboards, and which memory they use. Theres a number of tools to help you choose the correct memory, eg a PC scanner, a manufacturer's database, or you can have a live on-line chat with one of thier specialists if you need even more help.

I would have bought it from them if I knew about the money back guarantee because most of the stuff I get from pc world gets returned cause its junk, but the memory is working ok.:)

Although I agree with you, Scan does charge mad money for delivery. But be assured that the product will be genuine.

Your right there, I live close to the place so not a problem for me, ebay probably better. I say them cos I have had a dell laptop with memory issues, it wouldnt take any cheap memory. I had to get corsair memory from scan and that worked a treat, still dont know why that was happening

I got the memory last week, but have bought things from scan in the past and the delivery to belfast was reasonable.
