apart from all the usual ones (godfather, rocky, braveheart etc etc) theres a movie called "I AM SAM" starring Sean Penn, stunning storyline an deffo one you can watch with the missus just keep a wee hankie at hand. one of the most underated actors of all time. if your ever stuck for a movie to watch have a search for his name and youll find a few treasures.

i am a very big scifi film fan so as long as it has a splattering of alians in the film i am happy but matrix 1 has to be my favorite film if i can only pick 1 but there are many more.
i am also a big fan of lost but getting a bit annoyed that they seem to be makeing up the plot as they go along and not explaining things that have happend and moveing on to the next mystery ...

Goodfellas, closely followed by The Matrix. Two films I amazingly, hadn't heard of, picked out in the local video store (Video stores, wow, remember them!), and was blown away.

Most films are far too fake and very made up to be entertaining (just like clowns)...

Their hair is always perfect.
Their clothes are always perfect and ironed!
No-one from a call centre ever phones them to see what mobile phone company their with or if they want double-glazing.
Explosions: Your home VDU will give a puff or smoulder if it blows, in the movies however you'll see a huge fireball eating away at the clouds as it rises thousands of feet into the air. It's all too false.

The Exorcist is my fav film.

LICK ME!

I have to say The Matrix for its shear originality in fact according to the documentary I seen it had film makers wondering how the hell do we beat that.

YouTube - Bullet-Time Matrix (http://youtube.com/watch?v=4l4uTH-HBzY)

Number 2 would have to be The Terminator 2 mainly for the special effects which left people in owe. I remember watching it twice because I was so impressed with those effects

For me it has to be the Lord of The Rings Trilogy.
Unusually I read the books first, years before I saw the films and thought they did an amazing job of telling a hugely detailed story graphically. Films hardly ever manage to do justice to the books they are taken from, but this epic trio did.

A long time favourit was the original "Clash of the Titans" for escapist fantasy, well realised before CGI became the norm. I looked forward to the remake, only to be VERY disapointed in the short runtime and the feeling that it had been rushed out without half the story of the original. It should have been a great film with todays special FX technology, but it wasnt and thirty year old stop go animation techniques showed how brilliant a film maker Harry Harryhausen was!

The Lost Boys for me. Love everything about it, the music, the setting, the overly cheesy 80s fashions etc. A brilliant cast too.

A very close 2nd favourite movie of mine would be Stand By Me!

I would say that "Full Metal Jacket" would probably be all time favourite film, funny, frightening, sad, good use of music, really enjoyable film.

Mine is a 3-way tie between Seven Samurai, Blade Runner and Rundown. All three movies are exceptional! Love them all!

I have always liked The Fith Element - looks good in the home cinema room anyhow, but I watched once again on TV a short while ago Westworld as mentioned above, great movie.

To be honest there are really too many favourites in my book !

Cheers

2012 is the best movie I have ever seen. I like this movie because this movie is all about science and humanity. Also Visual Efx of this movie which are really awesome. So far I have watched this movie more than 5 times.

For me it would have to be Pulp Fiction, always been a big fan of Tarantino and love all his other films. I find like most though it's tough to put it down to just one film. A film I enjoyed recently was Catch44.

Fight Club. Bought the book (didn't finish reading it - dyslexic) but a friend told me the ending wasnt as good as the film version, so I gave up attempting to read it. The Chuck Palanheuik books that have been made into films have been really good though. Reccomend Choke too. *thumbsup*

Has to be Snatch, the only film that I can watch EVERY time I see it on TV, in fact I might just have to put it on now, Catch me if you can comes a close second though.

As many folk have said already, it's pretty hard to choose just one film. There are have been so many great movies, in so many genres. If I was put on the spot though .... I guess I'd say "3 Days of the Condor". Probably the best film Robert Redford's ever done. Good performance from Faye Dunaway too, and Max Von Sydow is just brilliant. If you like a good thriller/conspiracy movie I highly recommend it.

Personally I keep coming back to Apollo 13. I think the lack of technology (life without internet - argh!) combined with the sheer determinism to explore almost makes me wish I was alive in those years.

I wasn't brave enough to look through the whole thread but my most watched movie has to be Bladerunner. I know the damned thing by heart. In fact my wife won't watch it with me because I'm saying the lines with the actors.
Others include 2010, telephon, THX1138 (I loooove this film), hunt for Red October, Dune (the David Lynch one), and lots more. I am a bit of a movie freak.

I forgot In Harms Way. John Wayne and Kirk Douglas.
I have just read the thread. Some excellent choices. Heat was another good film.

I'm currently watching the best film that I've ever seen. The Shawshank Redemption. Watching on ITV2+1 right now. Honourable mentions to The Dark Knight, The Matrix, Avatar and 12 Years a Slave.

I'm watching the greatest film that I've ever seen on ITV2+1 right now. The Shawshank Redemption. Second best is probably 12 Years a Slave. But just for watchability, I loved The Matrix, The Dark Knight and Avatar.
