Now that is a BIG request! there are so many! it depends on a) what graphics card port you have PCI- Express 16 or AGP or old PCI? b) how much money you are looking to spend and c) what games you are looking to play... these all have an effect on the decision. there are really only two players in the market Nvidia and ATI some have preferences for one or the other. The speed of the rest of your system will count as well what cpu you got?

I could go on but if you can answer some of these questions we would be in a better position to help

i Recommend nvidia 6600GT upwards. Get one for about £90 and it plays F.E.A.R. with is very graphic intensive.AGP and PCI-E both pretty good and reasonable.

Thinking of upgrading my 9600 pro myself (overclocked) because games are asking for more and more having looked I'd most likely go with this

POV Nvidia 7300GT - 512Mb - AGP --- (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Nvidia 7300GT - 512Mb

The 512MB of memory will come in very handy

I have a 7800GTX Gamers Edition (pre overclocked).

It has some major cooling flaws with the retail fan (Black or White Squares of non-texture flicking on some objects) I have to lower the FPS and Resolution to 640x480 and turn off all non-essencial gfx like AA and AF and limit the FPS to 30. If you get a 7800 make sure to buy the upgraded cooling fan (it's called a silencer but it also cools better). I needa buy this still... -_-;

EDIT:

The ATI vs NVIDIA battle is close. Most of the time you wont notice the difference between them.

If you want very good graphics go for nvidia (they have been focussing on bumpmapping, antialiasing, and anisteropic filtering).
ATI also are very good (they have been focussing on AA, AF, High Dynamic Range Imaging.)

This doesn't mean ATI can't do bumpmapping or nvidia can't do HDR. just ATI does HDR better and Nvidia does bumpmapping better. -+5 FPS. So unless you're avid gamers you wont notice anything.

You have solved your problem, its been overclocked too much. Try lowering the core and memory
