Microsoft will hold a press conference on September 30 where it will unveil Windows 9 and discuss its plans for the future, multiple sources have now confirmed. News of the event was first reported by The Verge, so, nice and reliable, and has since been backed up by BGR and ZDNet. So ? September 30 it is!

During the event Microsoft will detail all of Windows 9?s new features and attributes, as well as exact directions on its future trajectory, meaning the fate of Windows RT, what it?s doing with Windows Phone and how all three ? and its Xbox brand ? will all gel together in 2015 and beyond.

Codenamed Threshold, Windows 9 is Microsoft?s quick response to the disaster that was Windows 8. The new platform is designed to address ALL the issues users? had with Windows 8, debut new additional features and attributes, such as merging Windows Phone/Windows RT and Windows 9 under one, unified development roof, and ? of course ? reintroduce the Start button.

In addition to this, reports suggest Microsoft will make the developer preview available immediately after launch. So, if you want to test drive the next version of Windows, you could have it up and running on your PC inside the next five weeks.

?The technology preview will allow developers and consumers alike to test out some of the new features of Windows 9,? reports BGR, ?including the return of the Start menu and possibly an early version of Cortana for PC. We?ve seen some of the UI alterations in leaks over the past few months, but there?s no telling what will have changed since the early developer builds.?
