It would be interesting to see what connection speeds people have to the Internet. Can we have a Poll ? Mods can you help this to be setup please.
I suggest in the poll the items are :

PSTN (<56k)
ISDN (64k-128k)
512kb/sec
1Mb/sec
2Mb/sec
4Mb/sec
8Mb/sec
>8Mb/sec

2mb with telepest. Had 10mb for a while but too expensive. We should include costs as well so we can see a comparison, of what all the broad band connections cost

Im supposed to pay 17.50 a month for 10mb nthell, when they get the billing correct!
How do yhou work that out? I had a 2mb connection with NTHell which cost £24.99 a month. They have just done a free upgrade so I now get 4mb for the same price. I would love to know how your getting 10mb for that price unless you are new to them and on the half price offer for the first 3months? That makes sense because a 10mb connection is about 35 quid a month, so don't be so keen for them to get their billing correct as it will cost you double.
Please tell me I'm wrong because if I can have 10mb even at the price I'm paying now, I'll have it tomorrow, LOL.

Wow DD and is that still uncapped? If it is I'm on the blower to them tomorrow,LOL. I saw the documentary on tv a couple of weeks ago about the broadband expansion in the UK and they stated you could try haggling for a better deal. I did'nt bother because i never expected anyone to get results like that. Thank you very much for that info.
By the way who did you haggle with, Customer services or tech support?

DessertDog
21-08-2006, 09:48 PM
If you have been with them for some time phone customer services and tell them you want to leave as there are better deals about now.they offered me 10meg half price for 6 months and basic tv and phone price cut also for a year m8.I have been with cable for about 12 years
if you need to know anything else ask m8
I was also told to phone again after six months and they would look at it again.
There is loads of talk about the price hagling on net m8 loads have got there rental reduced

21-08-2006, 10:06 PM
Thats great DD. I have been with them for years as well and get my phone, basic analoge tv and broadband all from them. I am going to do as you suggest and see what I can ring out of them. The only snag is me I suppose because once I get a 10mb connection I won't want to give it up in 6months and I can't really afford a 10mb connection at full price, but as you said it all sounds negotiable further down the line. Six months is an age in computers and technology nowadays so we may all get continental connection speeds of 100mbps shortly anyway, hopefully.
Very greatful, you have been a huge help.

Well I rang customer services and got a fairly unhelpful bloke who just asked me which services I wanted to drop! He then suggested if I went on to just a 1mg connection it would be cheaper. I got a right firkin genious there I can tell you. I asked him if there was any incentive he could offer me to stay with them qouting prices and bandwith that my friends had and how NTHell were much dearer by comparison. The only answer to that was well ring the customer services tomorrow, so thats what I'll do. I will also use the unhelpfulness and downsizing of services suggestion he gave me as a bargaining tool. Sometimes it feels like trying to sh1t a coconut talking to them. :(

Unless you've got the fastest broadband in the world :9:

I rang NTHell yesterday and the lady was very helpful, no really, LOL. I explained prices and speeds that friends were getting and said I was thinking of changing providers. After a bit of wrangling I was given a 10mb connection at the reduced price of £17.50 for 3 months. After that I would revert to paying the full price of £35. I explained that I thought that was too expensive. It turns out that my SB 3100 modem will only handle up to 8mb anyway, so I explained that I would need to get a new modem provided by them to get full speed. Unfortunately NTHell will not provide me with a modem because I use my own private 1 at the moment. I explained that in that case I would be paying full price in three months for a 10mb connection and only able to use 8mb, so could I get the 8mb for the £24.99 I was paying now? While willing to offer me a discount she could not authorise such a discount, but could offer me a discounted up to 10mb for £26.99. So I would make a saving for 3 months and then double my speed for only £2 a month extra. I call that a result and if my modem would take it I would get the full 10mb because thats what I'm to be billed at as they don't have an 8mb price tariff.
I felt very pleased with myself until I spoke online to a friend who had just got a 16mb connection, upgraded modem included, from Bulldog for £30.50 a month. Thats the fastest speed I have heard of but I believe Sky are including such speeds with their packages now as well.
It seems that speeds are picking up rapidly here now because higher speeds are needed for downstreaming films and good deals are to be had by haggling with ISP's.
My thanks again go to Desert Dog for advising me about this.

It seems you didnt get one of the better people on there m8 i got my new modem for free they wanted 50 quid cos the old one would not handle 10meg but at least you got some result m8 ring them again in 3 months hagle again i think you really have to make them beleive that you are prepaired to leave them. All the best anyways m8
