In a new Battleblog post, DICE exec Karl Magnus Troedsson reveals that Battlefield: Hardline will be delayed to a release in early 2015 instead of its originally planned launch in October of this year.

The reason, Troedsson says, is largely due to the feedback garnered by the game’s recent beta test. The feedback inspired the dev team to “start thinking about other possibilities and ways we could push [innovation] further”.

But to do that, they’d need more time.

“This feedback also spurred us to start thinking about other possibilities and ways we could push Hardline innovation further and make the game even better,” Troedsson began. “The more we thought about these ideas, the more we knew we had to get them into the game you will all be playing. However, there was only one problem. We would need more time. Time that we didn’t have if we decided to move forward with launching in just a couple of months.

“We decided that the right thing to do was to take more time to ensure Hardline is the best, most innovative Battlefield experience we can give to you, our fans.”

Visceral Games, the minds who brought you the scare-tastic Dead Space series, is spearheading development of the cops-and-robbers shooter that promises an interesting new branching point for the series.

EA has delivered a point-by-point focus for these new “innovations” that spread across all facets of the game itself: a more dynamic multiplayer experience, an in-depth singleplayer campaign to deliver a significant “crime revenge” story, and launch stability.

Considering Battlefield 4‘s irksome glitch-filled launch, the last one is pretty important. No official release date has been panned out, but we should expect some concrete info in the next couple of months.

For now all we know is that Battlefield: Hardline is pushed back to a launch for early 2015 on current and next-gen consoles, and considering the huge wave of games for October, this might be a relief for some.

I'm quite glad that even big publishers are getting that we'd rather have it later but working.

Also from the previews in the gaming press it was sounding as though it would come over like a battlefield 4 mod with a cops and robbers skin so its nice they're looking for more innovation.
