i have telewest broadband at the moment on my computer with the surfboard5100 modem but i want to get the internet on my dell inspiron 9400 at the pc how can i do this and what will i need to buy? and will i get the same speeds if i use them both at the same time?

you will need a router and a ethernet cable(if u dont want to go wireless), you connect the modem to the router then the pcs from the router.

the speed should not be affected

It might be worth pointing out that the overall speed will be the same, even though the speed to the individual machines will certainly depend on the internet usage of the other system.

A NETGEAR WGR614 is not a bad one i have had no probs with this at all it is connected to the pc upstairs and the laptop is down stairs and the speed is fine

I can recommmend a Linksys WRT54GS......with third party software installled DD-WRT.
This third party software has all the bells and whistles you would ever need.

I currently have Belkin kit (wireless and wired) and i have noticed a lot of packet dropping when using the wireless element. personally i think its fine to use wireless for light web surfing, but for big file trans.. stick with copper! Try belkin pre N kit, i here good things about that.

hey folks
just a note on the above router, newer models dont accept the 3rd party firmware due to linksys changing from the linux o/s to vxworks. Just something to keep in mind.

I forgot to mention that.....think they are still working on a solution for the vxworks though.
