looking for some info on how to get windows 7 removed from my laptop. i need to go back to windows xp to be able to run diagnostic equipment for cars. i currently have win 7 32 bit and it works with most diagnostics but certain software only runs on xp or older. i have tried installing xp on my laptop but it will not allow me to install because it knows it an older system. any help would be appreciated. thanks

DBAN is a self-contained boot disk that automatically and completely deletes the contents of any hard disk that it can detect. It is a means of ensuring due diligence in computer recycling, a way of preventing identity theft if you want to sell a computer, and a solution to totally clean a Microsoft Windows installation of viruses and spyware. DBAN prevents or thoroughly hinders all known techniques of hard disk forensic analysis.

could you not use virtualization?
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-NZ/windows7/products/features/windows-xp-mode
you could find out if your co0mputer can do the above by running this app:

try running the software in XP compatibility mode, right click on the exe file and goto compatibility, sometimes works.
If not a virtual machine should be ok if you computer can handle it.

If u find a program called winsetupfromusb u can install windows xp from a usb drive faster than a cd-rom without having to burn a cd-rom and without the read errors of a cd-rom, it works wor installing win 7 too. just make sure u dont have anything on the usb drive (it will be wiped) and u need a .iso of the os.

For XP Mode you need Windows 7 Professional or Business.
If you don't then you will need to look at running a Virtual Machine.
If you have a valid XP license. I suggest you looking at running it through To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Let me know if you have any further questions. :)

Or if you don't mind losing the data you have on there then boot from a bootable XP CD and delete partition with win 7 on and then re-create a partition and install XP

I had a similar issue and did pretty much what digdug suggested. Just make sure all your files are backed up and your good to go.
