Am thinking of getting the new Ford Focus with the small 1.0 litre engine. Has received good reviews, but does anyone have any experience of driving/owning one? What's a realistic mpg for normal driving?

Or can anyone suggest an alternative - petrol engine, low tax, high mpg?

I had a ford focus, it was the worst car I ever owned so personally I would avoid.
My vauxhall was much more reliable, and the New Corsa is almost the same size as the old Astra so may be worth considering as an alternate to a focus.

Never driven the 1.0L but owned the 1.6L (05 reg) and its a beaut. Sweet balance between comfort and sportiness for when you're feeling naughty!

Vw anything with the 1.2 tsi engine. I think it drives like a 2.0 - a very powerful engine for its size.

I own a Bmax with the 1.0 ltre 120PS engine and can't really fault it. On a trip to Blackpool recently I averaged 55 mpg and round about town I can usually achieve 33 mpg so yes I would recommend this engine.

hi i too have a bmax now did have focus with 1 litre turbo done spain 4 times last year my only problem was me due to bike accident not my fault my left ankle gets very weak so clutch control gets poor so i had to change car wanted focus with auto but did not do it with 1 litre engine so i tried a bmax auto and its as good as the focus but its 1600cc so the road tax is higher not 30pound in 2013. i like auto because it as dual clutches so you dont feel the box changing gear plus if you want you can select sport mode and change gears manually all 6 of them of to spain in september again i to got around 50ish to gallon at 85 mph if ford would put 1 litre with auto in focus i would go back to a focus maybe not been every were through france and spain and here not seen many bmax on the roads but seen many focus to common cheers

what about a vw group with the dsg box, vw,seat, skoda or audi, i think it is a great box and far superior to an auto?
