I've decided to take a leap into linux, Had tried it before but never liked it.

All that has changed! Zorin OS has a windows7 like feel to it and pretty much all was similar to the way i was using Win7.

My dual screen setup worked after tweaking a few settings....like you would have to in windows.

it has pre-installed apps like vlc media player, rythymbox for music etc.

So far I'm really happy with it!

tried it before zorin. Could not get the dual screen working properly. Then did the suggested updates and it never booted again. Loving zorin. everything is working about 99%

It was always going to go that way with some distros, they either cant afford the overheads(server space etc) or just plain get greedy.

Alot more than ubuntu out there, think i have tried most and they all have the own unique qualitys :-)

so far so good on Zorin. Some things i miss like keepass and its merger with firefox. have the linux keepass but not the other bit.

I have Calibre for linux and working from my book folder the windows version is using too.

So far so good.

Was even thinking about putting it on my laptop now too, but might try some distros you suggest Collider(apart from mint) that has included programs and such?????? nowt to complicated that needs use of the terminal.
lol

Also few basic commands that might come in handy(for ubuntu but pretty universal) http://linuxpoison.blogspot.co.uk/2008/10/useful-commands-in-ubuntu.html

thanks, have book marked it. Will saty with zorin os on the desktop for now. I downloaded the pclinuxos ultimate and in process of installing it to the laptop. If it turns out to be any good may convert the desktop, but for now zorin seems stable enough and does what i need!

Installed PClinuxOS on the laptop, good OS but i think its overkill. So many apps, aint got a clue what to do with them all.

Still if Zorin goes pear shaped i think i'll install PClinux on the dekstop!

Been there, havent even got it installed but playing around with different OSs etc makes you pick it up real quick, only downside is trying run windows games or finding games/apps that i like to run on it.

Wines good for running windows apps etc but a f***** to get around sometimes,
