What does 'lift the attys mean

You lift attys (desolder from the board) to read the info of the box ie ird and box key

These are integrated circuits, made by Atmel, that can be programmed with information.
The information on the circuit can also be read of course, (thats how people can get the BK and IRD from them) but you need a specialised programmer to do this such as a Willem or any other that has the facility to program TSOP chips.

Although people like to make it sounds an easy thing to, desoldering a 52 pin surface mount component, reading or programming it, then replacing it back on the board with all the very, very, small legs making a perfect connection is NOT at all easy :), and don't forget you also have to buy the special SM reflow soldering equipment (no, you can't use a 25w soldering iron!) and the Willem programmer as well !!

OK, it is fun to try and do it, and if you are experienced with electronics you will be able to with a little practice and quite a bit of money, but if you only need to get one box working, for the same amount of cash you could either buy another box that could be modded by an easier method, or a Dbox2.

reading your posts you have a di2000 box you would have to ask someone really nice as you are a student lol (btw that wozn't a hint)
