Does the box boot up fully??
if it don't you need a usb to 9 pin serial port adapter plenty on fleabay
or use a desktop pc that will have the right 9 pin port on the back.

Let us know if your desktop has the correct port and if you managed to flash it.

If there is room in your PC, I suggest a PCI to RS232 adapter card, which will guarentee a good connection. Usb converters can be hit or miss sometimes, depending on the type.

argggghhhhh-normally i dont have issues with techy stuff, but this is really frustrating me. have connected the dm500s with lead and connectors to a usb port on my desktop pc and now when i try using dreamup it tells me, "Error-cant find any COM ports- aborting. anyone explain please. Another thing i have noticed is that the green light is on showing power to the box, as it is scart connected it isnt showing anything on my tv which is switched to scart. says no service. Also the box wont switch to standy. Its like its locked, froze or something. Maybe someone would let me post it to them and i would compensate for there help.

As Mags suggests, it sounds like your usb to rs232 adapter isn't fully installed, install the drivers for it.

Depending on your OS, navigate your way to Device Manager and see if it is showing the com ports.

But as I say, they are not 100%, a real RS232 is the best option, but keep trying with the USB adapter, it should work.

yeah win7 and some usb to serial converters dont like each other. Win7 tend to like to install 'better' drivers which then in turn makes the converter not run the usual way. You can stop win7 installing better drivers automatically but it would affect ALL drivers and not just the converter.

usb to serial it s***e, you would be better with a serial output on a desktop m8,if using dreamup, use version 1.3.2.1 as it works on clones, hasn't failed yet m8 ??
