I managed to get one of the second batch. I wanted to use to run xbmc but tbh it was too slow. I think it would be good to run via terminal but anything graphics related Os it really struggled. I guessing was expecting too much from it.

Yes i did and i wished i hadnt! Im still waiting on that one turning up i ordered it in june like yourself and i got a email at the begining of September saying it would be delivered between 1t Oct to 14th !! over 4 months before it turns up!

Maplins will be selling them very soon at a very reasonable price with all the bits including a keyboard and mouse may be worth a look for anyone thinking of getting one :)

Apparently RS can delivery a Pi in 6 weeks atm, and if CPC/Farnell have them in its next day delivery! or about 3 weeks if not?

Cant wait to get one, ive hear OpenElec runs better than XMBC or RaspBMC, should make a nice little youtube streamer for the TV. :)

DO NOT ORDER FROM RS Online!! They are pants!! Farnel are far quicker and alot better service RS Online dont bother returning emails or answering phones they are just not bothered at all took them 18 weeks to send mine out so no chance im ever ordering anything from them ever again!

To be fair, the Raspberry Pi is a (very) special case. We use RS everyday at work and 99% of the time you receive in stock items the next day, and their customer service is usually fine (although I like Farnell's better).

I ordered two Raspberry Pis (one from RS and one from Farnell) as soon as they were available to order, both took a couple of months to turn up after ordering. The bottleneck is in in the factory not the distributor.

The case is nothing special at all and 18 weeks is a joke!!! I sent 6 emails and nothing!! Not even a message to say we hasve got the email and we are sorting it out. They can go spin from now on i will never ever order from them again and i would advise anyone not to use them as they are crap! 18 weeks is a joke and in that time they sent one email saying about a shipping delay of 4 weeks which turned into 6! If you wanted a refund that was a jke too they say 2 weeks well on the web site people have been waiting over 6 weeks for a refund. Farnel are so much better they took my credit card details when i ordered it and didnt take any money till the item had been dispatched. RS on the other hand took the money straight away for all the bits i ordered and then waited 18 weeks before sending it out. Bad practice if you ask me they shouldnt have taken any money till the item was dispatched like Farnel did and yes i have got 2 PIs now lol

6 weeks to get one off them now?? No it wont be because the 512meg one has now come out and people will be ordering them so the stock will be low again and it will turn out to be another 18 week wait from them and they wont tell you this till you have paid the money over. They need to get their act together and get the problems that they have got sorted out and get better customer care as what they have now is minimum at best and the best answers you can get are on the forums from other members of the forum and not members of staff who just keep quiet.

Sorry nugget666 but your "very special" case is just a bit of plastic which is pink and got a few stickers on it is in no way worth waiting 18 weeks for!

DO NOT ORDER FROM RS Online!!

Advice noted and understood
CPC Farnell state that there Pi's are the 512MB Model already, so shouldnt end up with the older model, with a bit of luck ;)

Just found out that NewIT.co.uk now have stock of the 512MB model and can deliver within days, rather than weeks (or months) little bit more expensive but a least it should arrive ;)

What is everyone planning on doing with their Pi? I'm going to run xmbc on it, but I'd like to do something a bit better and more original. I'd like to incorporate it into a toy for my daughter, but haven't come up with any ideas yet.
