I'm not too clever when it comes to PCs so go easy guys.
I have a Compaq laptop, pretty basic number just use it for surfing the net and keeping my music library.I use it in the living room,i usually have it on mute but tonight tried to put sound on and nothing.Couldnt get no sound at all.Went into control panel and sounds and it says no sound device is detected.Tried all the trouble shooting but still nothing.
Hope you guys can help,as i say im not great with PCs so if anyone knows whats happened or what i can do to get some sound it would be appreciated.

have you tried uninstalling the device and reinstalling your sound drivers?

If the uninstall and reinstall do not resolve the problem we can dig a little deeper into the issue.

I take it that the sound used to work for you in the past? And that you are running Windows XP? If you right-click on 'My Computer' and then click on 'Manage' you will open the Microsoft Mangement Console (MMC). Under 'System Tools' you will find 'Device Manager'. Click on this in the left pane and the right pane will show your system devices. Check under 'Sound, Video and Game controllers' for your soundcard. It may have a yellow or red flash across it indicating that there is a problem. You may also find that there is an unknown device listed. If so, this is most likely your soundcard and may require the drivers to be re-installed.

Try this and report the results and we can investigate further. Perhaps you can let us know the model number of the laptop as well.
