Asus has revealed that the next major edition of the Android operating system will indeed be called Jelly Bean, as had long been rumoured.
Asus?s Corporate Vice President Benson Lin said: "Asus is very close to Google, so once they have Android 5.0 I think there will be a high possibility that we will be the first wave to offer the Jelly Bean update."
Although Google never officially acknowledged the name Jelly Bean, it teased the update at last month?s Mobile World Congress (MWC) by serving a bowl of jellybeans at its booth surrounding by Android plush toys.
It?s unlikely, though, that Jelly Bean or whatever it winds up being called will land until the very end of this year, possibly the same time as the launch of Ice Cream Sandwich, which landed in November with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
What might come as a surprise to some is that Asus might be the first manufacturer to bring an Android Jelly Bean device to market. More interestingly, there are whispers that the Taiwanese computer maker could also be in the running to produce Google?s debut Nexus branded tablet.
