Probably, because my Peugeot 308 can have its passenger airbag turned off, for safety to accommodate a baby seat in the front seat if you wanted.

Usually there is a key switch on the door pillar which is accessible when you open the passenger door usually near the top hinge, if not located there look by passenger side leg space, sometimes info on a sticker behind sun visor too.

Found this that may be usefull
The passenger airbag is controlled by the passenger seat occupancy mat, that activates the use of the bag if a person is sat in the seat.

If during an accident the occupancy mat feels there is no need for the bag on that side to go off...it doesnt!

If its in relation to a childs seat....you cannot just switch it off.

Therefore child better in the back in most BMWs!
Imo the best thing to do is give bmw a ring

The seats in the recent 3 series have sensors to detect a certain mass sitting on the seat. Look under the seat and you will see a connector plug and wires running into the seats bottom. Therefore, you cannot turn off the passenger airbag, as the seat will detect the weight and react accordingly, by deploying the airbag or not.
