Have been monitoring the prices in my sad what hi fi mags lol, on the year to date sets have dropped quite a bit for example on a comarison from july mag to september mag £200 pounds off panasonic viera plasma.
Hope this trend continues but as new features and sets flood the market it could be a great time to get a bargain.....or there again hold off....I predict 37" and 40" plasma and lcd new technology for about £1000 soon on some of the better sellers sites (empire direct)
Seems good news and with the development of sed who knows even lower prices for the "older technology"

hey there's nothing sad about monitoring the prices - in fact keep doing it and keep us updated then we'll all benefit from it :)

prices seem to vary considerably when you shop around, there are even models that are considered "older ones" that are HD Ready & have built in freeview, some of those Viera's are coming down to reasonable prices so you dont just feel like your paying for the casing, feel sorry for people who bought them at over 2K just 6 months ago.

The problem with Plasma's and LCD's is that when newer models come out they will be overpriced and the older models prices will drop, alot of people (like me) would choose newer model against the older models. By waiting 4-5months for prices to drop on newer models, an even better model (at the overpriced rate!!) would probably be availible in this time which would againt tempt alot of buyers. Its a vicious circle!!!

TBH m8 id just go for the plasma but its really personal choice. i just think you get more "bang for your buck" when dealing with plasma tvs. have a good look round and go into your local retailer an see what you like. think about what your after regards size, what it will be used for ie gaming/watching films. the reason i said plasma as you said the word "cheap" and plasmas are plummeting and i think they look much better but thats personal opinion.

That 32 inch of dessert dog's post looks unbeatable. I wish I had seen it earlier I have just bought Dual 32 inch from Asda for ?479 quite good but no wall bracket an extra ?50 for that, should have read the box thought wall bracket should have be included.

There are many lcds on the market major differences in price is that cheaper ones have poor viewing angles and low contrast ratios. Ones to buy stick with branded ones like sharp, sony, samsung but saying this stay away from philips-MAJOR PROBLEMS AND VERY POOR BACKUP SERVICE.

They are dropping because in Q4 2007 SED sets will be released. These babies are capable of producing images with 50,000+:1 contrast ratio and work like the standard cathod ray, only that it is as thin as a plasma screen

@ Dunc,

My own opinion would be to go for a plasma. I got a 26" samsung lcd almost a year ago and recently picked up the lg plasma on offer at comet. I'd go for the plasma as it has no lag at all. The samsung lag is just about noticable when playing fast games.

It may also be worth checking out dabs.com. The have a samsung 42" plasma for ?799. not sure how it measures up against the sets you're looking at, but it may be worth a look. It is a Samsung PS42E7HD.

Let me know how get on dude.
