We're not exactly short of affordable Android phones at the moment, but thrifty smart phone fans might be interested to hear there's another option incoming.
T-Mobile has just announced the imminent launch of a smart phone called the Vivacity on its UK site, and it certainly looks like it's going to be leaning towards the budget end of the Android range.
The Vivacity appears to be a ZTE-built device, but as with many of the company's phones its branding has been scrubbed off and replaced by an operator's. There's definitely something of a 'bargain basement iPhone 4' about the phone's design: like the iPhone it has a 3.5-inch touchscreen and flat sides, with curves in the corners. We'd be incredibly surprised if the build quality is anything like as solid as the iPhone 4's, mind you.
T-Mobile hasn't spilled the beans when it comes to specs yet (all there is on the Vivacity's page is a form for registering your interest in the phone), but Unwired View posits that it has a 5-megapixel main camera, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and of course the usual likes of 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS.
Not too shabby -- but given ZTE's form we do think this'll be a cheaper Android device than the high-end offerings from HTC, Samsung et al. Indeed, the Vivacity seems to be T-Mobile's answer to the likes of the Orange San Francisco II (also built by ZTE), which is available for ?99 on pay as you go. We'd expect a similarly wallet-friendly price tag for the Vivacity -- and we'll let you know more when we have the release date and pricing details.
