Samsung Galaxy S2 owners face a longer-than-expected wait to get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) on their handset, the phone-maker?s Italian division has apparently confirmed.
The newest, tastiest version of Google?s Android OS, which adds a suite of slick new features to the platform, debuts in the UK on November 17th when the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartie lands on contract deals.

Last week, an industry analyst claimed that Galaxy S2 owners won't have too long to wait for the update to hit their phones, with Sammy purportedly scheduled to push it out from January.
Today, that prognosis looked more than a little optimistic, however. In a list of phones/informal update roadmap posted by Samsung Italia, which was uncovered by the Android HD blog, it's claimed that the ICS rollout to Samsung's flagship phone isn't due to start until the second quarter of the year. That means we're looking at a due date of April at the earliest.
When the operating system bump does finally arrive, S2 owners can look forward to the addition of a novel screen unlock method which harnesses face detection technology, slicker multi-tasking and revamped versions of native applications.
Other Galaxy-branded devices due for an update come Q2 include the tablet-cum-smartphone the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Tab in its 10.1, 8.9 and 7.7 flavours.
