hi folks
am a bit new to freeview in fact very new as i have sky and am just about to get my first freeview box for the footy and the likes .

so i thought i would ask the people in the know about the box i should get that makes it as easy as possible to use for codes and working in general , i also noticed in a feww other posts that there seems to be a problem with some boxes searching for updates and once it does that you are loosing the picture , so i wanjt to avoid that if possible and if not i can live with it :)

so any advice would be greatly welcomed

thanks

Hi
After years of a brilliant pioneer ondigital box which is still going strong in another room I got a Humax mg tu1 after much checking and deliberating...been a good box only flaw is requires an occaision switch off at mains to reset some of the digital features.
Welcome to HUMAX [UK] (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. May also want to look at new generation boxes
Panasonic UK - DMR-EZ25EB-S DVD Recorders (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. depends on budget....I have returned a couple of cheap bargin boxes as I liv in a weak signal area, however if you are in a strong area these boxes do a job.

Hi Jimbo, Ive got a Humax PVR 8000T and its an excellent box. There is a very simple to use popup recording menu where you just click ok on the channel you want to record. I put a 200gb hardrive in mine but you could scart it to a vcr or other recorder if you wanted. Mine has only 1 tuner though but you can get a Humax with 2 tuners if you want to record 1 channel and watch another. They are quite reasonably priced for a good bit of kit.
I do have the same problem of it occasioally sticking and needing to be switched off then on again though, but it is hardly a hassle.v:)

:gun: Get a nokia media master if you can find one saves you getting the code updates for the fitbaw and the crappy porn

A good budget box is the ?23.99 Digihome from Argos. Can't complain for the price.

You really can't go wrong with a Humax box - as diablo, I have a PVR8000 & wouldn't change it for anything.

I have seen US freeview boxes such as pansat models which can get any channels with the right codes including cable channels. Can the Humax do this?

bought a couple of f/view boxs from asda of all places the brandname is durabond , seems to be a brand unique to asda , 20 quid each , upside is great pics in weak signal areas , scans channels really fast , 2 scart sockets and small
downside no camslot but at 20 quid its a decent buy

I've got a Sagem ID62
The picture is excellent the digital text is very quick.
The downside is only now and next guide and it occasionally freezes and resets itself, strangely it only happens late at night.
most of the cheap freeview boxes are the same but with a different casing, you can usually tell by the remote control.

I just bought a Phillips DTR210 for ?39.50 from Asda. Easy setup, good picture and you get the football. One of my better purchases I would say.

anyone know of a Freeview pvr box that can record NTL:Telewest ?

By their nature I think Freeview boxes are designed to work from the aerial only, probably to stop people like us getting extra cable channels for free. I am not aware of any freeview boxes that receive cable, including my 9200T Humax, which is plugged into the aerial socket sepparate from the NTL cable link. A little strangely perhaps my Yakumo pvr recorder gets some of the cable channels like Disney, Sky 3 and Eurosport amongst others, completely independant of the Replay box when plugged into the ntl cable.

I have the same box and sometimes lose channels for a while. Any ideas on how to reset or overcome this problem.
