Had son round other day and he was waffling about all this dns stuff, but i have to say after he had messed about on my computer for an hour he actually did make searching quicker, one of the pieces of software he used was something called namebench.

Try out namebench. It hunts down the fastest DNS servers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System) available for your computer to use. namebench runs a fair and thorough benchmark using your web browser history, tcpdump output, or standardized datasets in order to provide an individualized recommendation. namebench is completely free and does not modify your system in any way. This project began as a 20% project at Google.
namebench runs on Mac OS X, Windows, and UNIX, and is available with a graphical user interface as well as a command-line interface.

Thank you for looking and i hope it benefits people like he has myself :)

My son has just informed me that there is another program like the one above called DNS benchmark by a compant called GRC that may be more user friendly but takes a little longer to do a scan for these DNS things
